The climatological, socioeconomic and cultural conditions that Guatemala presents make it conducive to the establishment and development of tropical diseases. These represent a serious socioeconomic problem due to the injuries and disabilities that they produce in human beings, which make it difficult for them to join society and their own activities.
There are many diseases that are considered tropical and are caused by parasites. whales or viruses. Transmission cycles vary since some are transmitted by insect or vector bites, others by transfusions of blood components, congenital transmission or by direct contact between humans.
Among the diseases present in Guatemala are Malaria, Chagas disease. Leishmaniasis. Dengue, Amebiasis, Toxoplasmosis, Tuberculosis, Hepatitis to mention a few. All of them represent a risk for the Guatemalan population since their presentation varies in the different departments and regions of the country.
Due to the danger that these diseases represent, it is necessary to carry out prevalence studies, search for better laboratory and clinical diagnostic methods, pathophysiology of diseases, study of the causal agent and search for new treatment alternatives.
