Abstract

A Guatemalan strain of Lacearía bicolor (L. bicolor 197.1997), collected in Huehetenango, was characterized in vitro to determine its miceliar growth under four different pH conditions: 4.5. 5.5. 6.5 and 7.0 in Modified Melin-Norkrans medium (MMN). The plates were incubeted at 26°C and studied for 40 days. The biggest diameter was obtained in pH 7.0 and variation in the morphology of the colonies was observed according to the pH level: with pH 4.5 and 5.5 hyphal tufts were formed while fibrillous and smooth colonics were observed in 6,5 and 7.0 pH cultures. The hyphae showed a 2.0-4.0 pm in diameter with irregular swollen cells, as nodules, at the septa and a notorious violet pigmentation in the acid pH cultures.
