Effect of Carrot Rice Water in the Treatment of Acute Diarrhea in Children Six to Sixty Months of Age

The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of carrot rice water compared to rice water on diarrhea duration, number of stools, and stool consistency in the treatment of acute diarrhea in children.
It was carried out in a population consisting of 22 children between 6 and 60 months of age admitted to the Pedro de Bethancourt National Hospital in Antigua Guatemala, 11 children were randomly assigned to a control group and 11 to the experimental group. The average amount of rice water and rice water with carrot administered was 32 ounces to each child, the children who were breastfed continued to be fed on demand, the weaned or mixed breastfed children who were taking infant formula were continued to be provided in the form and those receiving solid food were given the hospital diet.
The average age of the children participating in the study was one year and nine months in the experimental group and one year and eight months in the control group. 41% of the children in the experimental group were male and 9.0% female, and in the control group, 27% were male and 23% female.
