Abstract

This study reveals an unusual diversity of diurnal butterflies in Guatemala City, not only in terms of species richness but also the occurrence of species that are frequently only found in warm and humid areas or in forests or cloud forests. This diversity could be sustained by the network of ravines that generate a system that maintains microclimatic and habitat conditions, as well as the connection between the remaining forest patches.
