Abstract

Guatemalan Boletus pinophilits samples were described macro and microscopically and compared with two Italian samples and with European bibliography to determine the right identification of them. Samples were also compared with Boletus rex-veris, arecently confirmed North American specie similar to B. pinophilus. There were found differences in form and size of cystidia. basidia and sterigmata number but the main difference was the form and size ol the cap hyphae. It’s concluded that B. pinophilus in Guatemala is a different entity of B. pinophilus sensu stricto, which grows in Europe, by the microscopic features found as well as its more intense flavor and thinner size. It's proposed the description of a new variety: Boletus pinophilus var, americanus var nov. R. Flores and G. Che.
