Abstract

An exploratory' study was conducted to determine the feasibility of a chemical oxidative process of heterogeneous photocatalysis for the treatment of water containing pesticides. The purpose of the study is to establish general treatment basis for pesticides, cypermethrin, chlorpyritos and glyphosate, widely used in Guatemala, due to their efficiency of combating pests.

The pesticides used were dissolved in water. The proposed experimental conditions were: 10 hours of solar radiations. 200 ppm oi'TiO2 (catalytic), pH 4, and varying percentages of hydrogen peroxide (oxidizing agent) and pesticide concentration. The results obtained were percentages of degradation of each pesticide.

The general basis to determine the feasibility of heterogeneous photocatalytic oxidation process for water containing pesticides was obtained at the end of the study.

It is recommended to recreate the experimental conditions and compare the variations of the results found in this study.
